FIBER OPTICS GUIDED MISSILES TECHNOLOGY

The EFOGM is the most revolutionary weapon since the arrival of the attack helicopter 30 years ago. Unfortunately, few US military officers are aware of its existence. The EFOGM (below) is basically a long-range TOW anti-tank guided missile perfected by the US Army in the 1990s. It flies a flat trajectory guided by a TV camera in the nose of the missile that remains connected to the launcher by spooling out fiber optic cable thinner than a fishing line. A soldier watching a video screen guides the missile with a joystick and crashes it into the target. It can strike armored vehicles, helicopters, or any tactical target within 10 miles.
A tank battalion can be annihilated by an EFOGM battery several miles away, especially since an EFOGM strikes downward into a tank's light overhead armor. Even attack helicopters will stay clear of areas where EFOGMs are reported, since EFOGMs can be used against them. Since an EFOGM does not fly a ballistic path, its launch location cannot be determined by counterbattery radar. EFOGMs do not need to "shoot and move" they can "shoot and shoot." As a result, EFOGMs teamed with counterbattery radar can devastate gun batteries and mortar positions from 10 miles away. However, the Europeans have already developed the fiber optic missile, with an incredible range of 60km by using a turbojet engine. Meanwhile, the Brazilians now have FOGMs in production and for sale. Their Avibras FOG-MPM (right) is a missile for multiple employment purposes, particularly against combat vehicles and fortifications. It has a modern guidance system based on data transmission by fiber-optic cable.

ZigBee Technology

For Innovative Technologies, ZigBee modules were an intelligent choice. Searching online, Innovative Technologies found a number of vendors offering 802.15.4/ZigBee modules. Two module characteristics were of key importance: power consumption and size. The sensor device has to work autonomously for 4 years on one 9V battery. Plus, the PCB board had very little "real estate" left for module integration. Most of the leading ZigBee modules boast very low power consumption. However, when it comes to size, only the ZigBit modules from MeshNetics featuring a tiny footprint of just over three square centimeters -met Innovative Technologies' requirements. The fact that ZigBit modules come bundled with the MeshNetics' own ZigBee networking stack software, along with support for both hardware and software, further boosted Innovative Technologies' confidence in their choice.

ZigBee-Based Wireless Sensor Network

The next step was to try out the ZigBit modules. Innovative Technologies ordered the ZigBee Evaluation Kit from MeshNetics to achieve this goal. Containing three ZigBit-based development boards with sensors, accessories and software, the kit provided sufficient tools to evaluate the module's performance, ensuring that it lived up to expectations. After a successful test run, Innovative Technologies began prototyping their application.

ZigBit modules featuring dual chip antennas are integrated into boards connected with a range finder sensor and 9V battery. ZigBit modules take full advantage of the new Atmel's RF transceiver AT86RF230, which possesses -101dBm of Rx sensitivity and up to +3dBm of Tx power. This combination is known as the "link budget." Range of operation is a logarithmic function of link budget, so a difference of only 9 dBm nearly triples the range. Thanks to the outperforming link budget, the range of AT86RF230 is almost 3 times that of any other 2.4GHz 802.15.4 radio on the market today. This is important in a spacious parking lot. If a module provides a good range, it means that one sensor device can be used to cover several spaces. Besides, the parking lot environment, with its concrete walls, pillars and metal cars, is not exactly an RF signal-friendly place--making strong RF performance a must for the modules.

DNA Molecules In Moss Open Door To New Biotechnology

Plasmids, which are DNA molecules capable of independent replication in cells, have played an important role in gene technology. Researchers from Uppsala University in Sweden have now demonstrated that plasmid-based methods, which had been limited to single-cell organisms such as bacteria and yeasts, can be extended to mosses, opening the door to applications of a number of powerful techniques in plant research.

The findings have been published in the distinguished journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA (PNAS).

Professor Hans Ronne's research team at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology at Uppsala University works with the diminutive Physcomitrella moss, which is widely used in research because its genes are easier to "knock out" than those of other plants. Previous work has also shown that DNA introduced into Physcomitrella cells is capable of self-replication through an as yet uncharacterised process.

The new study, which was led by Dr. Eva Murén and Ph.D. student Anders Nilsson, shows that plasmids introduced into moss cells can be rescued back to bacteria without affecting the plasmids' original structures, provided that certain conditions are met. Up to now, various kinds of rearrangements have sharply limited the use of plasmids in animal- and plant-cell research.

This thesis project is an interactive mobile project based on a wearable technology. The basic focus of this project is to stimulate people's emotion with an interaction between a mobile phone and a wearable technology, and to develop a social network service between friends.

The main goal is to create a wearable Bluetooth accessory and to create a new mobile service. For example, let us assume that there are two mobile phone users. One user can send SMS to operative directions to the other's clothes as the user wants. Without the two users having to meet, they can share their feelings and emotions by sending signals by SMS to each other's clothes. Using our service they will be to change the colors of each others garments, certain patterns or they can send Emoticons to the fabrics on the garment.
In conclution, Two mobile users are able to change each other's clothes by sending and receiving their SMS in Mobile phone.

Affordable sound of the future Technology

As audio and visual production and presentation technology improves, TV and computer games are reaching new levels of realism in both the representation of characters, and the way in which the game world reacts in a lifelike manner.

In movies and games, music plays a vital part in creating a mood and manipulating the feelings of the viewer and player. Imagine Psycho or Final Fantasy without the power of music: half the experience of the movie and game would be lost, reducing both the enjoyment and the experience.

It used to be that people could only experience the full effect of a sound track by going to a cinema or games arcade, where surround sound cocoons viewers, creating an immersive experience that leads them to forget about the outside world for a few hours.

Creative Technology, a worldwide leader in digital entertainment products, has declared the philosophy that anyone should be able to have the same experience at home. It is with this in mind that they have launched the Inspire M5300. It allows the listener to be surrounded by clear, natural booming sound when playing games or watching movies in their homes.

Introducing the 2010 SlopeStyle & Tracer 29er

The cat’s outta the bag: this past week at Eurobike in Germany, Intense announced the addition of two new models to the 2010 lineup. Both rigs were designed by Jeff Steber, of course, with the input of riders and racers from around the world.

The 2010 SlopeStyle is reminiscent of the 6.6 SS, but incorporates Intense’s latest technology and recent successes in design features. With lift access bike parks becoming more groomed and many incorporating dedicated jump lines, the new SS gives a rider the sensation of a full on DH bike but with the quick, nimble handling of an agile trail bike. Utilizing 6″-6.5″ of rear wheel travel and designed around 65 degree head angle, the 2010 SS is a bike in a world all its own.

The Tracer 29er is another of Steber latest masterpieces. A take on the uber successful Tracer VP, the 29 version pushes the envelope of the big wheel design, promising to own the ever growing 29 trail bike segment. Adjustable from 4.75″-5.25″ of rear wheel travel, the Tracer 29 is the longest travel VPP 29 on the market. Complementing the bump in travel over our previous generation Spider 29 is a tapered head tube, a burly monocoque top tube, AC bearings with grease ports and next gen VPP technology. The Tracer 29 holds true to its namesake — it’s 26″ breathren is one of the most well received trail bikes on the market because it is the all around trail machine — the big wheeled version shares the same ride characteristics and the Intense craftsmanship and will be unlike any other 29 ever.

Expect to see both rigs in stores and on trails in early 2010.

Synthesis Beta Complete Packaging Lines

The Beta machines can be integrated with down-line Universal Pack equipment to produce complete packaging lines, designed and manufactured in-house using latest technology machine tools.

We offer two main categories for the automatic cartoning of the produced sachets using pre-glued folded cartons or flat blank cartons.

1) Mod. Delta:

are intermittent motion horizontal cartoning machines which use pre-glued cartons.
These machines designed and produced conforming to cGMP standards incorporate the cantilever frame construction allowing easy access for cleaning, maintenance, inspection and size changeover operations. The balcony design assures complete separation between motion and product handling, also prevents carton dust and debris from falling into main drive components.
All main machine movements are activated by servomotors (Brushless).
The positive opening technology, additional creasing (up to 120°) guarantees aesthetically impeccable packaging. Delta machines are suitable for automatic cartoning of pharmaceutical, cosmetic, chemical and food products.

The Delta cartoning machines can be fitted with a variety of optional items such as pharmacode control, tuck in or glue closure, embossing, end line check weight, third party leaflet unit or a smart Universal Pack solution (starting from prefolded leaflet, flat or reel), etc.
The size change takes less than 10 minutes, only 3 indicators need to be adjusted and few parts need to be substituted.

2) Mod. F50:

is carton forming machine suitable to erect boxes starting from flat blank cartons, by means of mechanical former and "hot melt" glue.
Mod. C50 and C60 are our carton closer machines.
A wide range of closures can be obtained, such as:
- "casket" style or "tuck in" with flap glued to outside of the carton
- "head" style with hot melt glue points on the lid
- "side" style with hot melt glue points on the lid.
These machines can be fitted with all the optional items needed for both pharmaceutical and food industry such as pharmacode control, leaflet unit, end line check weight, hot melt applicators, etc.
The change size philosophy is the same for Delta machines (few parts to be changed).

The simplicity, minimum maintenance and quick size changeover are the strength and the key of success of Universal Pack machines and lines.

Spring Design dual-display Android ebook reader: Alex

Earlier last month spring desiegn launched a cool new e book reader gadget known as Alex. What’s special about this latest ebook reader is that it runs Google’s Android and has two displays. The top one as you can see is a conventional monochrome electronic paper display that’s six-inch in size while the bottom one is a color touchscreen which allows you to use Android to browse the internet and blogs.

What’s unique about having dual display, is when you’re browsing the internet either via its built-in 3G modem or Wi-Fi, the Alex will let you visit a web site, select a story, and the device will reflow it to the EPD screen. This makes it feel like whatever it is you’re reading has been published as a newspaper article. Though one issue I think I would have with it is that it appears to be a very long device, this may make it less portable. The colour screen can be switched off to save power. This makes browsing blogs and news sites much more feasible, since you don’t have to wait for the ebook to render individual pages before you get to your target content.

The capacitive LCD touchscreen running Android also supports UI customization, photo galleries, and full-color video playback. When you read an ebook, the interface lets you quickly skip around to any page, using an on-screen slide bar. An on-screen keyboard also makes text entry practical. With so many multimedia features, I would say the Alex is probably one of the best boredom fight gadgets to be launched in recent months :)

Microsoft SPOT and Suunto n3 Smart Watch review

About four years ago, Microsoft's Research and Development team came up with a new technology called Smart Personal Object Technology (SPOT) that uses FM radio signals to broadcast news, weather and other information to wristwatches. The first Smart Watches leveraging SPOT were first launched last January at the Consumer Electronics Show however it did take them a few extra months to get the wireless service running with all its features and have wristwatches available more widely.

According to the software giant, the technology is comprised of three pillars: the computing platform (SPOT), the wireless service (MSN Direct) and a new FM radio-based network (Microsoft DirectBand network).

Over the past few months we were given the opportunity to review Microsoft's SPOT service. The service costs either $39.95 per year or $9.95 per month, plus tax.

The Latest Technology in Satellite TV Systems

Satellite TV has so much to offer now after all of its recent technological upgrades. This not only applies to things such as the new massive quantity of high definition and standard digital format programming that the two leading providers have to offer but it also applies to the actual satellite TV system that you will be using. In years past if a person wanted to begin receiving satellite TV programming one of the things that they had to do was to go out and buy a satellite TV system and then decide how they were going to have it installed.

That was then and this is now, because both of the leading satellite TV service providers will now give you and install free of charge a complete satellite system that includes everything that you need to get started watching satellite TV. With both DirecTV and Dish Network you have your choice from the several models of satellite TV receivers that they keep in stock. Some of the features and functions that you will have the option of including in your receiver of choice are custom menu, parental control, DVR, and programming search function.

The programming search function and DVR work great together and are so simple to operate with the free TV remote control that comes with the system. To find a program or movie, simply press the button on the remote and then enter in whatever it is you are looking for by name or even by the name of an actor in the movie or program. Give the buttton a click and the system does all of the work for you.

In seconds the search is over and your movie or program is displayed on your screen with the date and time it is on and a few other relevant details you can read if you wish. Simply give the DVR button a click and it is set to record when it comes on automatically and you don't have to do another thing.

It will even be recorded if you are watching another channel when it plays. If it is a game and it is rescheduled for some reason thats not a problem, because the DVR will automatically reschedule and follow it to its new date and time and record it. You can even get a DVR in your receiver that can record two channels simultaneously while you are watching a third.

Green Technology

This topical report is designed to inform new business teams at IT suppliers exactly what key decision-makers really think of “green IT” – should it be something you’re pitching as a USP of the products and services you’re selling?
Recent years have seen an ever-increasing take-up in the adoption of virtualisation technologies, alternate power generation, power management systems, more efficient hardware and recycling initiatives. We’ve spoken to decision-makers at eight companies featured in the “Global 100” rankings; an analyst-compiled list of the world’s most sustainable FTSE listed firms, unveiled in Davos at each year’s World Economic Forum. The companies featured in this report have invested time and money into becoming truly “sustainable”, and are some of the most fertile targets for your prospecting.
Some of our findings aren’t surprising – these businesses continue to invest in sustainable technologies to reduce carbon emissions and improve efficiencies. Some comments are perhaps unexpected, however: one senior infrastructure manager has expressed that in his view, IT simply “ain’t green” – it’s important, therefore, that you realise it’s about minimising harmful emissions, rather than proactively improving them. Another contact we spoke to mentions there’s a real danger of “green fatigue” and disillusionment with the term – a suppler looking to gain traction needs to present its green credentials as a component of its positioning, rather than relying on them too heavily as a selling point.
Our findings also reflect the fact that if you’re selling green technology solutions into industry, you need to pitch them as a cost justification, as well as something that’ll lessen the environmental impact of the organisation you’re speaking to.

Lia Timson rounds up the coolest gadgets at the latest technology trade show.

Tech heads and early adopters must have had a field day at CeBIT, Australia's largest technology trade show. It wrapped up this week, clearing the way for the latest hardware and software to be embraced by consumers and businesses. Some of the gear is already available, other devices will arrive later this year. Much of it capitalises on the trend toward mobile work.

Among the stars of the show was the ultra-mobile personal computer (UMPC) - between a tablet PC and a personal digital assistant (PDA) - with full PC capabilities at half of the price of a tablet. The new $1650 EO from TabletKiosk is 50 per cent bigger than the average PDA, runs Windows XP and ditches Pocket PC applications in favour of full Windows software versions.

It's handier and lighter than a tablet or laptop and more useful than a PDA, primarily because of its 17cm touch screen. The UMPC will come with hard drives from 30GB to 160GB, and with memory up to 1GB. It is Wi-Fi and internet enabled, but does not have a mobile phone, although we are told one can be connected via Bluetooth.

Hugo Ortega, the principal of Tegatech Australia , distributors of the EO, says demand has already outstripped initial estimates, with 250 units sold in the first two hours of orders opening. It arrives in June.

"From what we've seen, there is demand for digital ink to take notes on the screen and have it transcribed to Word or other [program]," Ortega says. He says it will finally do away with paper notebooks carried around by students and note-taking professionals.

World’s First TFT Roll-Printing Technology developed by LG Display

LG Display has revealed that it is currently developing the world’s very first TFT roll-printing technology that has the ability to replace the photolithography process. The all-new technology will be demonstrated by its developer at the Society of Information Display (SID) 2008 event.

Photolithography, which is also known as optical lithography, is a process used in microfabrication to selectively remove parts of a thin film or the bulk of a substrate. It includes an intricate set of processes, for which huge and costly equipment is a prerequisite. However, by employing the roll-printing technology rather than photolithography a lot of these issues are dealt with more effectively.

The roll-printing technology is expected to render manifold benefits, such as it would help cut down the material and equipment costs, clean room investment costs and also curtail the production time of TFT-LCD. And the best of all, it is an eco-friendly technology that reduces the use of chemicals used in the photolithography process to a great extent and is also applicable to the next-generation, flexible display technology.

The F 500 Mind showcases the very latest technology
At the Tokyo Motor Show 2003, Mercedes-Benz presented the latest in a string of research vehicles which have attracted much interest and attention over the years and which provide fascinating insights into the automotive technology of tomorrow and beyond. Packaged as a modern four-door fastback saloon, the F 500 Mind mobile research lab showcases more than a dozen ideas for enhancing the safety, drive technology and comfort of future Mercedes passenger cars.
The DaimlerChrysler researchers will be using this vehicle to conduct the first practical tests of these innovative systems and pave the way for their commercialisation. The raft of innovations extends all the way from the night vision system with infrared laser headlamps to two-way doors and a programmable multivision display in the cockpit. Electronic accelerator and brake pedals, an interior pillar which provides structural rigidity and an ultrasound driver information system are further features being tested by Mercedes-Benz in the F 500 Mind.
or the powertrain, the DaimlerChrysler researchers have developed a high-performance diesel hybrid unit whose NEDC fuel consumption is up to 20 per cent lower than that of a comparable CDI engine. The state-of-the-art V8 diesel engine (184 kW/250 hp) from the S-Class has been combined with a powerful electric motor (50 kW) which is switched on and off by an electronic controller in response to traffic conditions and driving style. The electric motor can take over for example when moving off from rest, in stop-go conditions or in other situations where an internal combustion engine does not operate at optimal efficiency. When the driver demands more power, the V8 internal combustion engine cuts in to provide sharp acceleration. The 300 V battery for the electric motor is located under the passenger cell and is recharged during braking.
